Summer during COVID has been a weird time. We are fortunate to still going to the beach every weekend with minimal crowds but outdoor dining has made spontaneous dinners and happy hours impossible. Happy hours have crowds that we don’t really feel like being around and most of the restaurants around us need reservations over a week in advance and you never know what kind of weather you’ll get. So I don’t think we’ve gone out to eat at a restaurant on a weekend evening the whole summer.
A couple Saturdays ago, it was a beautiful day and was supposed to stay beautiful into the night. We really did want to do something outdoors but also still feel relaxed. I had the idea of having an outdoor movie night on our deck and I got so excited for it. I don’t know how almost the whole summer went by and I JUST thought of that.
We have an extra TV that isn’t set up anywhere right now and we have a plug on our deck that is adjacent to where our patio chairs are set up so it was the perfect location. I knew I’d want some fun dessert for that evening so we ran to Rita’s for some italian ice during the movie! Before the movie, we had our own happy hour on the deck, getting ‘dressed up’ (aka putting on makeup and not just a tshirt) but still comfortable, and enjoyed some drinks and take out from a local restaurant.
Once the sun went down, we made some popcorn, put on a movie, continued to enjoy our drinks, and ate our italian ices! It was honestly so simple but we made it feel a little extra special than a normal night on the couch watching a movie. I LOVE summer nights so being able to enjoy a movie we both love while sitting outside in beautiful weather made this such a memorable night.
