Graham is moving into his new room in a couple day

Graham is moving into his new room in a couple days so the soon to be here baby can go in the nursery! I wanted to paint a new piece for his room and started to paint a wispy sky with a moody ocean. He has been LOVING birds lately so I last minute decided to throw some birdies in there too 🥰

I can’t wait to hear him say ‘bird’ every time he sees it 💙

How to deckle edges on your artwork! 👇🏽

I usually do this with my smaller watercolor paintings…I’m a sucker for a deckled edge! The term deckle edge is basically referring to a raw edge and not a perfect smooth cut that a scissor would give you.

1. Start with measuring out where you want your edges to be. I did this prior to painting with light pencil marks.

2. Bend the paper with the help of a ruler along the lines you made for your edges. I then bend all of the sides back and forth a couple times. This helps it be a bit softer to help when you go to rip the paper.

3. Hold a ruler down on the paper to begin pulling the paper against it with your fingers. The pressure being put down on the paper from the ruler will help allow the paper to rip while you pull it. Do it slower the first few times to get a hang of it!

This isn’t supposed to be perfect so don’t worry if the edges look funky! That adds to the organic nature of a deckled edge 😊
